We help you save and get more bang for your precious holiday bucks by comparing the price of 25 Christmas holiday essentials between the big four supermarket chains.

Ever wondered how much “just popping into the nearest shop” over the holidays could cost you? We have… And to show you where you can get the best bang for your buck, we’ve done a price comparison between the big four supermarket chains to give you a better idea of who’s charging what for year-end essentials.

Our mystery shopper did the heavy lifting for you, finding and comparing 25 classic Christmas holiday must-haves.

Overall, Woolworths proved most expensive – not a big surprise for us. What was interesting was that Spar – we shopped at a Super Spar – has the cheapest basket of goodies. The other supermarkets were both somewhere midway. It just shows how important it is to shop around.

So, if you’re planning on spending a casual Christmas on the beach, then Spar, Checkers or Pick ‘n Pay will do just fine. If you, like us, will be hanging at home to save on holiday expenses, perhaps you’d like to spoil your loved ones to a little treat from Woolies.
